Iran into this engrish error after I built my supersweet new computer. Searching on Google doesn't help at all. Some people are really hampered by this error. For me, it was only an occasional annoyance. I posted to anandtech and a few other forums but didn't find any help there.

girl handsSome people suggested changing batteries, some blamed it on overclocking while others suggest updating firmware. Nothing worked for those suffering. Sad days. Nobody knew how to fix this problem until I came along with my awesome awesomeness (and modesty) and fixed it. Isn't that awesome? There's no guarantee this will fix it for you, but here's what worked for me.

Change one little setting in your computer's bios. It's that simple.

Hardware?

I'm running the following hardware.

  • AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+ Model ADO3600IAA5DL
  • BIOSTAR TFORCE 550 NVIDIA nForce 550 MCP Motherboard
  • BFG Tech BFGR76256GTOCE GeForce 7600GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card
  • CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)

I am not over-clocking. I had no other problems with this flarging awesome machine. Because the error is so specific and not OS-dependent, it led me to believe the problem is often specific to the BIOS itself rather than a user's modification thereof. I poked around a few obvious areas in the BIOS but couldn't find anything out of whack.

But when on a whim I changed from it's default setting to Halt On No Errors, the problem went away.

How to fix it - the solution

  1. Head into your BIOS. For me, pressing Delete while I'm booting up does the trick. For you, it's likely that too, but there are other keystrokes that'll do the trick. Try, F1, F2, F12, ESC, or some key combos like CTRL+ALT+ESC or CTRL+ALT+S or CTRL+ALT+INS.
  2. USe your arrow keys to maneuver to "Standard CMOS Features" or something similar. Press the "Enter" key.
  3. Use the arrows to navigate to "Halt On" and press "Enter"
  4. Choose "No Errors" with your arrows and press "Enter"
  5. Get out of the BIOS and be sure you save before exiting.
